Instantly Elevate Your Go-To Work Outfits in 3 Easy Steps

If the idea of putting on another humdrum office outfit sends you into a cringe, then you’ll be excited for what’s in store. The real secret to a brilliantly styled outfit is to find gorgeous, quality pieces, then dress them up with versatile accessories and simple style tricks.

To prove that point, our pro stylist, Kate, takes on a sophisticated business-professional look and a go-to casual Friday ensemble, and shows how to instantly (and easily) elevate each with three genius tips.

Business Professional

Amp up your work wardrobe by selecting not-so-basic basics that have a special detail like a cross-front blouse rather than a button-up and a ruched navy pencil rather than a basic black.

Step 1: The elevated look begins with cuffing the sleeves of the blouse to three-quarters length. Next, fully tuck the blouse into the skirt worn high at your true waist.

Step 2: A great investment piece for your work wardrobe is a classic blazer in an unexpected pop of color. It’s a great way to add personality to your look without compromising professionalism. This hot pink blazer is so fun for work or the weekend, and that versatility makes it a worthy purchase. (Pro tip: Leave the blazer unbuttoned for the most youthful look.)

Step 3: Add some serious style to this look by simply accessorizing with a killer gold cuff and a coordinating statement necklace with earrings to match. Select a versatile wrap belt to accentuate your waist and elevate the look even more. As for shoes, keep it simple with nude strappy heels to elongate your legs.

Casual Friday

Who doesn’t love comfy, casual Friday work outfits? Get mileage out of your investment pieces here by dressing them down with denim.

Step 1: Step up a typical base layer by selecting a versatile striped sweater (it’s versatile because it can be worn layered in cold weather and in the spring with white skinny jeans). Cuff the sleeves to three-quarters length, and front tuck into the jeans just above the button. A simple front tuck can change the whole look of an outfit, especially on petite women.

Step 2: Bring back a pop of color with the hot pink blazer (I told you it was versatile, didn’t I?). Wear this blazer over the sweater and cuff the sleeves of the sweater about one-inch below the jacket sleeves for a preppy, structured look.

Step 3: Accessorize this stylish-yet-comfortable outfit by adding a few statement pieces. Show off that front tuck by adding a thin belt. Then, mix in a statement necklace to add some edge to your outfit. As for bracelets, add playful mixed metal bangles (it’s a huge trend that won’t be going away anytime soon). Complete this outfit with chic leopard flats to achieve a mixed-patterns look.
